Diabetes and ice cream, incompatible, yes or no?

What do you think of this article? Do you really think diabetes and ice cream can be compatible?

When summer arrives, the consumption of certain products that are traditionally associated with it, such as sweet and refreshing ice cream or drinks: wins, meringue milk, horchata milk, these desserts are associated directly with high sugar content and, in high sugar content and, in high sugar and, inThis sense, there are many doubts about whether or not their consumption is suitable for people with diabetes.

Having diabetes should not mean having to give up these delicacies: "The summer period should not be a special difficulty, but a period of rest and enjoyment as for all the rest," says Dr. Alba, endocrinologist at the University Hospital of the Canary Islandsand editor of the magazine Diabetes de la SED.The only thing they should keep in mind is that the products that consume contain the necessary information so that they know what they can take and those who do not.

to the rich ice cream
The commercial ice cream that we all consume are made from milk and other dairy derivatives. The specialist informs us that these products "according to the CAE (Spanish food code), must present certain characteristics in their preparation and composition", such as the sucrose content, the additives used and the calories, among others. These issues must be presented in labels so that they can be read by consumers.

The components that are added make people with diabetes cannot consume these ice cream in large quantities, "since their high content of simple sugars can condition important high blood cells."The most advisable thing is to look for other alternatives to these products. An option would be the light ice cream in which the levels of simple fats and sugars are lower. However, the doctor clarifies that "it does not presuppose that they can be consumed in unlimited quantities, but that the admissible amount may be somewhat greater because of its specific ingredient content."

Information to power
Acquiring these low -fat ice cream that are more recommended for diabetics is easy.In practically all supermarkets and hotel local can be found.Even in some artisanal ice cream shops there are varieties of this dessert with a sign in which it stands out that this product is ‘suitable for diabetics’.Although we have all this, the doctor always recommends "look at its correct labeling to adjust your consumption to our specific recommendations."

Despite all the information that may be about these products, it is very important that a diabetic person, before consuming them, contacts the diabetological education team that is treating it to see in what quantities it is suitable for ingested, since not all diabetic people respond in the same way.The expert clarifies that these patients, "must learn empirically, as with other circumstances of our life (stress situations, colds ...), what is the effect that causes them their consumption."

Natural sodas
As with ice cream, other summer products such as menged milk or horchata, can be consumed by diabetic people following the guidelines mentioned above.Dr. Alba reminds us that carbohydrates and natural sugars, not added, of food, "can be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced diet and an active lifestyle."

But not only ice cream or dairy sodas can be considered the only refreshing and delicious alternative to alleviate the summer heat.People with diabetes and without it have countless fruits with a high percentage of water that helps them fightHeat and, in addition, are rich in vitamins and fiber."It is also important to increase vegetable consumption, for example, in the form of appetizing salads," the specialist advises us.

As you can see, the life of people with diabetes should not be totally conditioned at certain foods. They must control the amount they consume ice cream, but not fully deprive themselves of them.Of course, if any doubt arises, it is best to clarify it by asking the doctor who carries the treatment. He will better offer the best tips to enjoy the healthiest way of summer delights.

Hello!!I found some perhaps a tad better than those of Mercadona, which are those of Nestle without sugar, which are cones neither very small nor very large, and that have 6g of HC per cone and there are also cream sandwich of similar characteristics. My son loves, I will actually tell you that we all eat them and like them the same.
It is another option.Sometimes in snacks in replacement of yogurt I also give him ice cream (ice creamry) of the little and without cookie, in a glass, and he is worth perfectly. We verified that a small ice cream ball did not alter its glycemia.

All the best

My daughter prefers ice cream artisans with sugar. They are the best because they do not carry the fats of the prefabricated. An ice cream of a ball and two insulin units.
When it is low, it does not need insulin.
Greetings to the forum!

But how many grams of sugar carry each ball?

I would like to know how much is the maximum of sugar we can take when we are not in hiccups, and without being too harmful.

Normally the maximum that I take, so as is, they are 6-7 gr of a bar sugar envelope in the coffee. And I have the impression that more than 10-15 grams of sugar diges quickly (in drinks or with empty stomach and without being in hiccups) produce the symptoms of hyperglycemia, dry mouth, tiredness, etc.Although then when looking is not very high of sugar (130).But if the body complains showing those symptoms is that it must be quite bad.No?

My vote also for those of Nestlé.There are almonds with stick and minicons that only have 7 g of HC per ice cream.almost like a natural yogurt. They do not have the taste of an ice cream with sugar, but they fulfill very well. They are quite good (not to have sugar).

Well, Angela takes those who are third ... Look LO HCS.and puts its corresponding insulin. If they are ice cream (not ice poles), a dual bolus is usually put on (it has insulin pump), being part of that insulin in a square bolus for 1 hour and the truth is that it works very well.
Someone has asked about ice cream and HC, s that have ... a normal ice cream ball, with sugar, contains approximately 40 grams, bone, 1 ration.

Hello!!!So if a normal ice cream ball is a ration of H.C.It is not ever changing a yogurt for an ice cream ball, especially if it is taken without a cookie.I ask you the most experts that it is our first diabetes summer and it is hard to tell a child not before an ice cream, especially when you ask for it occasionally, not every day of course.
Greetings

We the Normal Ice Cream or Tarrina Ball that they put in the ice cream shops or restaurant we have always told my son as 2 portions, not as 1. In fact it is what he puts in the leafs that they gave us in their day.
That you want the dessert ice cream ... Well, 2 rations of HC we count. That you want between hours or after a meal in which I was planned ... 2 Novorapid units is what is good for my 13 -year -old son (I suppose each one will have their equivalences) to compensate for two rations.

Let's see, I am confused, if the ice cream ball is 40g dehc are 4 portions! No! I have a small mess with all this, so that I have taught me 10g dehc is a ration! Or I am confused I do not know!

I understand that Velia means that each ball weighs 40 grams, not that there are 40 grams of carbohydrates ... but better that she clarifies it: \ ">

Let's see, a ball, or a piece of ice cream of 40 gr.(50 grs. According to other tables), they are equivalent to 1 ration of carbohydrates.
Marial What happens to you is very normal when you do not have much handling with the hydrates count, it tends to confuse the total product grams with the grams that contain carbohydrates ... in this case 40-50 total grams ofIce cream contain 10 grs.of carbohydrates.I mean, 40-50 total ice cream grams, contain 1 ration (10 grs of HC, s) of carbohydrates. I don't know if I have explained.(It is the same as 20 grs. Of bread contain 10 grs. of carbohydrates, so 20 grs. of bread contain 1 ration of HC, s)

On the other hand, for the little ones there are milk or cocoa polyts of several brands, the milkmaid, landowner, I do not know if frigo, which range between average and 1 ration and on top of them are good because they are basically composed of milk and with very few hydrates.Angela as little girl took them a lot.
