Good, my partner is pregnant and we did not have it planned, she does not have the sugar under control and we know the risks that that entails. We are quite scared, she is 5 weeks old and we are waiting to do the hemo (A1C) test but we are clear that it will be out of the recommended. We know the risks and that scares us, I wanted to know if someone has had any similar experience ...

Well, you will have to ask the doctor for all the information you need and, once well informed, act accordingly.Everything will depend on the value of hemoglobin and derived risks. If you take it on the good side, this may make your wife realize the importance of control and improve her health.Luck!

Yes, the truth is that we are somewhat overwhelmed with the subject because we know the risks (at least those of "manual").But what I wonder is to what extent these risks are a reality, for example looking at this graph:

For those who are not 100% with English, I try a rapid translation :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The frequency of defects in the development of the fetus in diabetic pregnancies is significantly higher compared to uncomplicated pregnancies
In infants born to diabetic mothers, malformations are found in 2.7-16.8% , while in that birth of healthy mothers who were only in babies 2-3%
The first fetal development period, that is, the organogenesis period (up to week 12 of gestation), is especially vulnerable to teratogenic factors - teratogenic factors during this period can cause mostly large congenital defects, mainly of the central nervous system (CNS), the cardiovascular (SCV), skeletal, and urogenital.
Results of numerous studies show that the incidence of congenital defects is much more frequent in infants born to mothers who came with blood glucose increased during the first trimester of pregnancy

Risk of malformations in a group of mothers newborns in varied with respect to HBA1C
If the HBA1C level , during the first quarter of pregnancy do not exceed 8.5% the risk of malformations was 3.4%
If the maternal HBA1C from the first quarter exceeded 9.5% , then this was related to a risk of 22.0% of the malformations .

about the risk of malformations in the sense of blood glucose:

In a female diabetic population with an average of glycemia 163 mg / dl (9.1 mmol / l), the risk of fetal malformation is 9.6%, while in which, with an average glycemia of 110 mg /dl (6.1 mmol / l) The risk is reduced to 3.9%
Maintain fasting glucose levels in the first quarter below 5.8 mmol / L and postprandial glucose levels below 9.1 mmol / L can contribute to the decrease in the number of fetal malformations
Keep in mind that pregnancy diabetes, despite the improvement of metabolic control, remains a strong risk factor for fetal development alterations, particularly in patients with a tendency to fragile blood glucose during the first trimester of pregnancy.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here I return: if we consider 22% as a high risk (which is) we would be talking about people with + 9.5% HBA1C the first quarter. But 8.5 % HBA1C reduces risk considerably.
I understand 100% that the doctor should always try to reduce the risk to the maximum, but to raise an abortion when there is a 78% chance that everything goes well seems very extreme.

The mother of my partner is diabetic and in her family there are 3 brothers, her mother (30 years ago) did not take control over her diabetes like today during her pregnancy because the possibilities were not the same.
And the 3 children who have left healthy and without problems (my partner developed diabetes just 4 years ago, so we did not blame him for the pregnancy of his mother ... :))
In turn, I suppose that many diabetic mothers in theAfter they have had to go for that trance ... we are not somewhat confused with such negativity on the subject ...

I do not encourage anyone to skip the rules that your endocrine puts you to have a baby, because you believe me, we are not having a good time, but we are trying to be positive.

I give you my opinion but I am neither a doctor nor I have an idea if it is correct what I am going to tell you, we are going to consult with the doctor.
I believe that hemo from before pregnancy does not affect the development of the fetus, it is simply an indication for the doctor of how you know how to handle diabetes. The important thing is how it has led and carries the glycemia since it is pregnant. The first 10 weeks are the important ones, you should not have serious hypos or ketone bodies ... I know that a girl who became pregnant with a hemo of 9 and has a precious girl ... that if the pregnancy was 10 compared toThe glycemia ...

Hi Tica, thanks for the answer, I have heard in several forums cases like your friend's, we are trying to correct diabetes to the fullest, but I suppose that when your friend found out I would already be of a few weeks not ??What scares us is that of 10 weeks we have already jumped about 5 without good control ...
When we learned of pregnancy we went to the Emergency Hospital (something ridiculous sounds) and the doctor who was there, did not seem to give much importance to the subject, it could logically do much either ... if I have to be honest, not only did it not give importance, if not I had no idea that there were these risks.I do not critic it at all, since it is not a specialist but I leave something surprised ... then we get into the network ... and everything is very alarmist ... my partner and I knew that the levels have to be under control, but we never thought that under such a strict control (we didn't have a child in mind ...)

What I would do:

1.- I would ask for an appointment with the endocrine, urgent.Tomorrow or past at most.Claiming pregnancy you have to receive you on the same day.
That makes an immediate emergency glycosylate, if possible digitally (in 5 minutes you have the result).
With that result in the hand, see if there are complications directly related to diabetes.
Listen to the advice and opinion of the endocrine.

2.- Without saying the endocrine, go urgently to the gynecologist. The same, claiming pregnancy should receive you on the same day.
Explain the situation and listen to your advice and opinion.

3.- Compare the 2 opinions

4.- Make a decision.

Personally, if I had complications directly related to diabetes I wouldn't have the baby ... but it's just my case.

First of all congratulations on pregnancies.

I agree with everything that Tica says, to take care of yourself in pregnancy, in my years of pregnancies there was no talk of the glucosiladas (it was not common,) of course it is now a super advantage, they made me two amniocentesis (before it was done to determinemostly pulmonary maturity) was in two of the three pregnancies, of my three children two were born with hyaline membrane and one with a minimum of low sugar. All healthy.

And this month grandmother again, I have 4, two females and two men.

Up to the future parents! And the beeracitas to bother the daddies with the Antojitos.:))

And as Owash Endocrine says and always hand in hand.

Greetings to all the fogs.

Buuueenooo ... I tell you how the subject is, today we have talked to the nurse who takes my partner, and has given him time for Tuesday. We have told him the topic of high sugar and he has told us that if he is 6 weeks, he does not worry that it is still soon ...
Although I suppose that they want to stress it least on the phone.I suppose that once they are clear as this, then they will hit him more or less anger ...

For the rest my partner this light years more relaxed than me, that if you look at the sugar 10 times a day, but it is not at all nerves ...

Today reading in an English forum, I have found a thread created by a girl with a similar experience, and well the opinions were quite positive. One of them said the following (I translate):

"According to my doctor, even with a high level of A1C, the chances that your child is born with some type of defect is 1 in 4, this statistic includes minor defects. My ob -obsthetric - who is specialized in pregnancies ofdiabetic mothers, that the chances of the defect being serious are from 1 in 100. "

*The original post (number 27) Nevermind user:

I don't know, I'm going to try to relax and see how the visit is going with the doctor, I will comment what his opinion is.

Especially finding someone trusted ...
I am 10 weeks pregnant, and I have done the analysis of the first quarter. The nurse who has taken me blood (very clumsy by the way ...) has thrown me with the anger for being diabetic and wanting to have a child, who was an irresponsible.I have not brought her because I was with a hiccup and I have sneaked into 100 people and all I wanted was to end soon and breakfast.
My endocrine is calm, the gynecologist says that it is a high -risk pregnancy but that if it gets along it is a "normal" pregnancy.Look for someone specialist (and not the first "list" who wants to comment without knowing), that your partner takes great care and tell him to go through the son of pregnancies with diabetes, who will feel identified with some of us sure :)

Hello!!As it goes ... Well, almost 2 weeks have passed since I wrote the last post.We were waiting for the result of glycosylated hemoglobin (HBA1C) and it was much better than we expected.6.5 !!!!!Honestly, I'm extremehad a similar experience with this type of test?I hope it is not a mistake or something ...

Anyway, when we had visited two weeks ago and we talked to the nurse, he told us that we do not care that pregnancies without planning in diabetic women occur too often ...

Well, I'll tell you ...
By the way ... thanks for all the answers !!

Elisa, if you have hiccups on the analysis day, take sugar, that does not influence you in the general analysis, and you can make the analytics the same ..,.Get more controls these months and correct the insulin dose when you need it, you'll see that everything is going well.

Doesn't sugar influence? Not even for the other levels? The cholesterol and other parameters also look at me ... if I had known before it didn't matter today to do the analysis ... well, I will try to see if tomorrow I spend the night well, anyway the endocrine does notGo until Monday, I hope that time to have the results by then.
Thanks, Regina.
