Ask about Lantus and Levemir

Hello everyone.

I wanted to know more about your experience than what is in scientific and indicated theory.

I have always used Lantus (well, since it came out) but for a few months and with the theme of neoplasms and since in my family there are a history, because I decided to change to the Levemir.

I have tried all possible combinations and my experience is that glycemia as the lantus do not control as well.

I work shifts, three days per week from 8 to 15 hours and two days from 14 to 20 hours. When I work in the morning I try to exercise in the afternoon and vice versa, the exercise I do is aerobic, aerobic type, step or bicycle.

Well, I have been high in the mornings for several weeks, in more than 150 or something else, when it was not so, and then I exercise and it gives me a horrible climb, if I have not had breakfast breakfast and I try to correct butAt two hours I remain high.

I have tried to put on the Levemir at night, in the morning and game in two, and I see no variation in any change of those I have done, I do not know if something escapes me, to see if you can tell me your experience.

Thank you.

How strange .... I use the Levemir, and the truth is that for the moment, I am very happy. I put it in 2 times (12 in the morning, and 12 at night) and my glycemiae are going well.It will depend on the body of each.Consciousness

Meginer, I'm going to get heavy, like Velia :)):
Have you not raised the bomb?
I think it is, by far, the best way to avoid hypers and hypers.

Well, the truth is that I have never raised it because with Lantus and Humalog I was doing very well, a hem of less than 7 and without hypoglycemia or marked hyperglycemia, just once gave me a nightly hypo but because I made the mistake of drinkingSome alcohol without drinking anything sweet (a little glass only on a birthday) and I with alcohol I am very sensitive and it goes down, it does not fail. That is why I am so surprised by the change of control by changing from Lantus to Levemir and wanted to know if someone had also happened to someone.

hello
I don't know if my experience will help you.I punctuate 28 U.de Levemir in the morning, and a metformin with midia food. The glycemia, I have controlled them quite well, although the diet is quite strict, and exercise I do not practice much. The basal is between 80-90 the mid-morning 130 before eating 130-140, I escape a little after eating 180-220 (because I have to go to bed and I do not move practically anything), in the middle of the afternoon well 150, andBefore dinner 130. I also tell you that I take corticosteroids, and do not practice any exercise.I guess it won't help you much, but I haven't tried another combination either. The super strict diet.
Good luck and even another

There is no completely conclusive study, the Lantus seems that when acting on cell receptors, it would enhance cell growth and can favor the growth of neoplastic (cancerous) cells, especially in type 2 diabetics since in itself already this type ofpeople are usually obese and also have more predisposition to suffer from cancer. In type 1 diabetes but it has been commented that it is necessary to value, in principle nothing would happen but it is recommended that if there is a history demonstrated in the family of some type of tumors, there may be genetic predisposition and try to move to another insulin. This is like everything, they are risk factors, that does not mean that by having those factors you will have it.I talked to the laboratory that carries the lantus and gave me all kinds of studies so that I saw that nothing happened but the truth is that these studies did not clarify anything, mixed type 1 diabetics with 2, mixed patients who had other diseases, with whatwhich there were many biases and also the conclusions were a bit ambiguous. The endocrine I know continue to bet on the lantus in type 1 diabetics along with the fast, I think that since it came out, it has given a lotthat it came out was mama) because the truth is that we have worried ourselves since there are many that we use or have used Lantus.Today, at least in my city and the endocrine I know, they only advise it in DM type 2 with obesity or background of ´Cáncence in the person or family and in DM type 1 with a demonstrated background of family history of cancer, butWell, everything is valuable, I think they would have to be clearer in this.I was a bit to try and changed to Levemir and for the moment it is true that I do not have the hypos that gave me so severe, but the glycemia have risen in general, I will continue to observe myself and I will see what I do.A hug.

Do not forget that insulins are anabolizing hormones ... It helps store glucose and other components within cells, so it is essential in cell proliferation.
In fact, some theory postulates insulin as a future mechanism of cancer control or healing.

Lantus, in studies prior to its commercialization, showed that a certain receiver was associated much more that is key in cell proliferation of breast cancer, than other types of insulin.
Year and peak ago the news to the media for a publication of a European observational study (without conclusive results, without cause effect) that linked and cancer.
The Americans have been studying this issue for months and does not seem that they have defined their position ... so doubts continue, until the opposite is demonstrated.

In the world of diabetes, the rumor that placed the lantus on the edge of the authorized medication or not, has been in force from the moment of commercialization. In fact, Sanofiaventis bought the patent to another multinational months before its commercialization.

pff..bueno I think I'm not going to worry anymore and continue with the treatment it carries, until there are more conclusive studies. Thank you both. A hug

Good afternoon;
I am a 33 -year -old diabetic woman and 22 of evolution of type 1 diabetes mellitus.
5 months ago in a routine gynecological examination I was detected in my right chest, after several hospital consultations and tests (ultrasound, mammograms, fine needle puncture) I made a biopsy.
The diagnosis was an "alleged" diabetic masteopathy, and that due to insinuations of several departments through which I passed, due to the use of insulin Glargina Lantus, which was removed 3 months ago from my medication and replaced by insulin Levemir.
The point is that the fabric has continued to grow by covering the entire breast, so I have returned to hospital medical services again going through the same test routine including another rather painful biopsy.

After all this journey, in my opinion voices are being heard about the use of Lantus insulin (there is a notice for more than a year "informative note of the AEMPS about insulin glargina (Lantus®) -") but nobody gives answers aboutThe possible evolution of this pathology does not seem to want to lift the hare of a direct association with said insulin.

In turn, also 5 months ago, in my eye background eye control, of not having alterations in the previous review, I went directly to an increase in the advance of proliferative retinopathy, an ocular condition that is also characterized by theCell proliferationSo they have had to submit to periodic laser sessions to prevent their evolution from continuing.

Then I continue email received from the Endocrinology Service of the Pamplona University Clinic in response to my consultation, as well as attached another document with information about it, since I am resorting to different associations, institutions, specialists, ... to beKnow and the necessary studies can be carried out, since according to the different medical specialists through which I have passed they have no data on known cases, nor do they seem to have the slightest interest, I imagine given the importance of these findings and whatthat would mean for the Sanofi Aventis pharmaceutical that markets Lantus insulin.

For all these reasons, I would beg me to send me any type of report, study, news ... In this regard, in the same way that I am willing to present my clinical report for your study.

Thanking him in advance,
all the best
Diana Sancho

Hello Diana

I spend a link with an article about diabetic masteopathy:

Very difficult to prove that the Lantus is the cause of that complication

When no international medical society has spoken is because there is no scientific evidence (cause effect) to prove it.
There are non -solid and non -replicable evidence on neoplasms and the use of glargine ... but they are limited to observational studies.
