Three Spanish investigations have been awarded by the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) and the Lilly laboratories with scholarships for young researchers equipped with 50,000 euros each and designed to promote study on this disease and its complications.
For 19 years, the Scholarship program for young researchers from Lilly and EFSD rewards EU researchers, doctorates and children under 38.
In this edition, 60 candidates from Belgium, Spain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom have been received.
Of the fifteen Spanish investigations presented, the Scholarships of Marce Claret, from the Biomedical Research Institute August Pi I Sunyer have obtained the scholarship;that of Laura Herrero, professor at the University of Barcelona, and that of Tamás Röszer, of the National Cardiovascular Research Center (CNIC).
Two of the three Spanish investigations focus the therapeutic objectives of diabetes on obesity control.
"These participation data demonstrate the good level of research in Spain," says Dr. Jesús Reviriego, manager of the Medical Department of Lilly Diabetes.
For researcher Tamás Röszer, "currently in Spain, there are numerous groups of excellence actively working on the study of diabetes."
For its part, Marce Claret points out that "it is important that the R&D of a country does not depend exclusively on government investments, since the financing of projects by foundations and private companies is essential to continue improving the level of the level ofResearch in our country. "
Laura Herrero considers that "investing in science allows us that in the medium term we can improve the quality of life of people with diabetes and reduce the tremendous sanitary cost that we are coming from."
