50% of parents of children with diabetes change their work activity to attend them

Half of children's parents with school -age diabetes have had to modify their work activity to be able to attend properly, according to a study developed by the Diabetes Foundation.

The study, which aims to thoroughly know the difficulties faced by families with diabetes, in order to draw plans that facilitate the full integration of these minors in all areas of life, points out that, however, fathers and mothers agree that having diabetes "does not make it difficult to integrate the child into their school environment and friends."

According to study data, in which 880 mothers and fathers of children with diabetes between 3 and 16 years participated, only 50% of teachers know what type 1 diabetes is. In addition, 5% of parents said thatHe had to change his school son, and 4% denounced that they did not admit their child at the school for having diabetes.

In the age group of children under 6 years of age it is where parents found more problems in the school due to this disease, reaching the figure to 27%.Likewise, about 16% claimed to have varied the pattern of glycemia or insulin controls due to lack of collaboration in the center.

Another of the demands that claimed 70% of the parents was that schools have a healthcare professional to be able to attend and control children's blood glucose levels.

Integration
