Children with flat diabetes learn cooking and healthy desserts

The Diabetological Education Consultation of the University Hospital of La Plana has brought together children with diabetes of the Plana Health Department around a master class for Manuel Esteve, winner of the 2015 Master Chef Junior Television Contest 2015.

"The objective of this day is to show children and their families that fun and healthy menus can be made," explains María Teresa Marí, an expert in the Diabetological Education of the University Hospital of La Plana.

Before the kitchen class, María Teresa Marí has ​​directed a talk entitled Does you eat everything?and in which the topics and errors of food for personnel with diabetes have been disposed."Children with diabetes can eat chocolates and pizzas, you just have to insist on the amount of carbohydrates," says Marí and adds that "this should be the feeding of all children: varied, complete and balanced."

Manuel Esteve has prepared a vegetable tartar with sandwich bread, a chocolate hube with fresh fruits and a tasty cake.

A consultation with 12 years of experience

The act has begun with a tasting of sugar -free chocolates and has continued with the welcome by Consuelo Suay, manager of the Department of Health of La Plana.

The diabetological education consultation of the University Hospital of La Plana was established in 2002 and serves more than 70 children with diabetes.Annually they meet various acts to share experiences and hold group workshops.
