The 2015 TV3 maralat will focus on obesity and diabetes, the two most important metabolic diseases
According to experts, diabetes, a disease that causes the presence of high blood sugar levels, affects approximately 14% of the population of Catalonia, half of the one that does not know.Basically, there are two types of diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes, which mostly affects young children and adults, requires immediate treatment with insulin.And they need even more studies that explain the mechanisms that cause it.
The majority of cases of diabetes, however, are of type 2, and obesity plays a very important role in its development.Obesity does not only have a higher weight than normal, but to accumulate an excess of fat in organs that do not have or have little, such as the liver, heart and abdomen.This fact triggers alterations that facilitate the appearance of diabetes.
Obesity is an increasingly frequent problem in the world population, which is not explained only by lifestyle changes associated with developed countries.Many of its potential biological, environmental and genetic conditions are still unknown.It is estimated that the index of obesity among the child population has tripled in the last 15 years and that an obese child will end up being a sick adult.
In 1998, the Marathon dedicated himself to diabetes.That edition widely sensitized society, but also represented a significant impulse in the investigation of this pathology in Catalonia.Seventeen years later, the maralat will focus on this disease and obesity, with the aim of promoting new research projects in cell biology, gene therapies, new medications and target treatments that improve the quality of life of affected people and, inGeneral, allow progress in their knowledge from all areas of research (basic, clinical and epidemiological).
That is why the next edition of the Mararató of TV3 will display its capacity for social awareness and popular mobilization to give visibility to these two metabolic diseases through a formula that mixes information and entertainment, put within reach of Catalan society through theMedia of the CCMA, TV3, Catalunya Ràdio and Digital.
