The American Drug Agency (FDA) has announced new measures to withdraw illegal products from the market, among which are dietary supplements, to treat diabetes and its complications.
The American agency has sent several warning letters to 15 national and foreign companies that sell this type of illegal drugs online or in retail stores.In this way, the FDA recommends not acquiring and consuming these products since they can contain dangerous ingredients or may be being marketed illegally.
Most of these drugs say that "they prevent and treat diabetes" and that "it can be a substitute for diabetes treatment."The North American agency specifically refers to products marketed as "natural treatments" for diabetes, dietary supplements or medications that are being sold without the required recipe.
"Our agency is committed to protecting consumers from the dangers of these products that are sold illegally," said Howard Sklamberg, director of the FDA Compliance Office for the evaluation and investigation of medicines."We will continue to take energetic measures against companies that sell illegal products that seek to treat diabetes," he said.
The American agency has requested a written response from the companies involved within 15 days in which they describe their intention to correct these infractions.If these are not corrected, the FDA ensures that it will adopt legal actions, in which it includes the seizure of the products and the criminal prosecution.
To date, the FDA has no knowledge of any report of injuries or diseases associated with the products that are sold illegally, but is taking measures to protect public health against possible damage related to these products.
