The director of the General Hospital of the West (HGO), José Miguel Van-Dick Puga, indicated that of the 130 thousand medical consultations that were provided in this hospital during 2014, 11 thousand 94 were for Diabetes Mellitus.

He added that for the above, minors are invited to suffer diabetes, to belong to the Child Diabetes Self -help group called Jandi (young people, adolescents and children with diabetes).

He said that diabetes mellitus is one of the 10 main causes of mortality worldwide.

He said that since 1978, the HGO generated a proposal to counteract this public health problem and show with evidence that people with this condition can have high quality of life if they are treated properly.

He explained that a self -help group for adults with diabetes was formed in 1980 and in 2002 the first group of children with diabetes was created that took the name of Grundi, which changed Jandi in 2004 in 2004, "which today counts todaywith 34 members. "

He said that Jandi currently has monthly meetings that are taught by health professionals, which minors and their relatives attend to receive training on issues related to diabetes mellitus and their management in the areas of medicine, psychology, nursing and nutrition, inter alia.

He pointed out that type 1 diabetes could not prevent and intervene genetic, family and patient factors.
