The 2014 edition of the Bilbao Night Marathon (October 18) will have the first time participation of the Team One team, composed only of athletes with diabetes. In collaboration with the Team One, the Bilbao Night Marathon organization will facilitate any athlete with diabetes who wants to participate in any of the three distances (10 km, 21,097 km or 42,195 km), a specialized assistance during the entire route. That translates into a series of controls throughout the race so that the corridor with diabetes can know its level of blood glucose and gesture it effectively during the test.

To do this, and for the first time throughout the national territory, during Bilbao Night Marathon the organization will have specialized provision (every 2.5 km approximately) for these athletes with diabetes, with specific gels (fast and sustained action), thussuch as glucometers and other necessary medical instruments (rapid insulin for cases of hyperglycemia, disposable syringes etc ...).

The gels of rapid absorption, to recover from hypoglycemia in full race, with a 1.5 -port contribution and without producing glucose peaks that reduce the rhythm; And slow absorption gels, with a total contribution of 1.95 rations of carbohydrates, to avoid faintness, will be delivered by Diabalance in very specific positions that will not be for all participants of the Bilbao Night Marathon.

The glucometers to measure glucose in the race will be offered by Menarini.Specifically, the glucomenlx plus+ model will be used with their corresponding reactive strips and the single -use punctures, in order to assist all runners with diabetes that need it without stopping their march, or stopping it as little as possible.

In addition, Bilbao Night Marathon's supplies will have sufficiently trained volunteers to perform glycemia tests or attend any diabetes participant.

In order to organize the specific supplies for the participants with diabetes, and to be able to cover all their needs, it is necessary that those who have registered in any of the three distances of the Bilbao Night Marathon or will do so, send an email to the organization indicatingThis issue.

Likewise in the Meta area, the Team One will have a tent in which all corridors with diabetes will be able to leave what they consider necessary in slogan, in order that once they cross the finish line they can access as quickly as possibleWhat they need in case of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, as well as in the tent there will also be at your disposal gels and other glucose products and meters.

An initiative proposed by the Team One and that the Bilbao Night Marathon organization hosted from the first moment with open arms.At this point we do not know the number of corridors with diabetes that will compete that day, but what we are clear is that they will do it with all existing security measures.

Initiatives like these we love and should have greater echo and diffusion in upcoming races or sporting events.

Hello,
It seems great.I just run the Zaragoza marathon (on September 28) and what we have to mentalize is running with gels and the glucometer on top because every 5 kilometers I mediate the sugar and there is a lot of variation in the levels.
Good luck to those who encourage you.
If anyone has more experience, what insulin/breakfast/hours before the race do you follow?

I walk crazy looking for a solution to my levels in media training.
I go out with 140-150 mg and half an hour I am already 100 and going down ... there are even times that at 10km I am already at 60-70 and it is hard for me to overcome ....

I do not know what to take before and during to keep me 140-150 I do not know if to eat something strong before and go to 200 or more to go down and be able to keep me, I do not know if it can be dangerous to go to 200 or more someone who can guide me to guideWhat levels can I leave or eat/drink during training?

A couple of weeks ago I did half a marathon and because of low levels, stops, controls and wait to go back I arrived and the last ones.

Even leg muscles began to engage due to lack of glucose I think.Tube to stop eating and resting to recover and finish the race.

Let's see if I find the key and I can enjoy as any of a race without dirty ...

Hello,
You have to be careful to exercise with low levels apart from hypos, no matter how much risk of injuries.
I am not a supporter - as diabetic - to follow the norm of breakfast a lot three hours before the race because if you act like this, or you get a lot of insulin to compensate what you have breakfast or get very high at the beginning of the race.If you get a lot of insulin, it is during the exercise a lot of effect and leads to hypos very fast and very strong.
In my long training or in the marathon, if breakfast hours before, but breakfast little and put less insulin. With control analysis that does not upload me much. And yes, just before, apart from measuring, eating well, banana, etc.Because there you are going to start it.And measurements+ gels during the race according to the measures.
