Maintaining breastfeeding during the first two years can prevent children from developing diseases such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension throughout their adult life.

This was stated by specialists from the Department of Joint Accommodation and the Intermediate Care Unit to Newborns of the National Institute of Perinatology (INPER) "Isidro Espinosa de los Reyes", by participating in the workshop on breastfeeding "back to work".

The doctors of the Inper, Alejandra Coronado and Omar Peralta accommodation department, considered that babies receive breast milk from the first hour of life, since it prevents diseases and promotes adequate motor and intellectual development.

As part of the preparations for the 30 National Meeting "The perinatal origin of adult diseases", which will take place from April 20 to 24, expressed concern because in the country only 14 percent of children born receive breast milk.

However, they recognized that this is because a large number of women are incorporated into working life, so they recommended offering more information about the importance of breastfeeding as a vital element to protect the newborn.

The specialists reiterated that "it is essential to promote and encourage maternal food from the first hours of life, and the creation of spaces in work centers for adequate extraction of breast milk."

For its part, the head of the Coordination of Education for Reproductive and Perinatal Health of the INPER, Rocío López Ortiz, explained that to achieve a better breastfeeding the mother must feed healthily and take at least two liters of water.
