Currently Mexico faces a crisis situation in the face of the diabetes, since it is estimated that around 10 million Mexicans suffer from it.However, the problem is even greater in the future, since it is estimated that the number of people affected by type 2 diabetes will increase from 8.7 million in 2013 to 15.7 million in 2035, that is, 20% of the adult population.
One of the main causes of this disease is obesity and Mexico is the second country with the highest index of obesity and overweight, since 71% of Mexicans suffer from it.This disease not only occurs in adults, but is increasingly frequent in children who are barely in development and represent 35% of the child population in the country.
We currently have different technologies that can help improve our quality of life, only our smartphone can execute applications for food, exercise and recycling tips, anything that interests us can have it at our fingertips.
That is why the Ministry of Health made an alliance with the French company Alcatel-Lucent to join forces and take advantage of the rise of smartphones to combat diabetes.
The constant growth of mobile penetration in the country and the increasingly powerful models of smartphones allow to create mobile health models such as patient monitoring and diagnosis.To develop the Health Program, signatures such as the Private Health Company BUPA, the Sanofi Pharmaceutical Company and the Peña Verde Corporate, which during the next five years will work on the development of a sustainable program that take advantage of the networks and mobile devicesTo combat diabetes.
The telecommunications company already has experience in programs of this type;For example, in Senegal a similar program operates that consists of sending an SMS with information on prevention, alerts or feeding tips for diagnosed patients.
But in the case of Mexico they consider that it gives more, since there are sensors with which remote diagnoses, remote consultations, connect databases through a smartphone can be obtained.
Apart from that it would be a great help for the population, they consider that they can reduce the costs of attention and operation of the sector above 400,000 million dollars for 2017.
Although at the moment they will begin locally in small communities, what they want is to have an impact on the Socieda in general that helps solve a big problem and that when applied to a greater range is really functional.
